Error with SP1 upgrade for reporting services

Hi,

I just tried to install SP1 for SQL 2005. All of the steps succeeded except for the upgrade for Reporting Services, which failed with the error "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file". When I checked the log there were a whole host of errors such as

"12/19/2006 09:06:41.031 Failed to read associated hotfix build information for the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\Bin\ja\reportingserviceswebuserinterface.resources.dll"

and

"12/19/2006 09:06:41.203 Failed to read version information for the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\es\help\f1_rsc_webui_standalone_5yr5.htm"

and

"12/19/2006 09:06:47.093 Failed to read registry key: Debug"

I am running a default instance, and was running the install under an account with local admin privileges.

The errors you mentioned are verbose logging messages that show up in almost all logs. Can you search that msp file for the test string "value 3" and post the 10-15 lines before that? That should give us a more descriptive error message.

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

Error with install of sept CTP Enterprise edition

Does SQL Server 2005 Sept CTP not support installation on XP? When I am installing, it gives me a warning that some things may not work with this OS, then when I get to the next screen I can't install anything.

Have you checked the pre-requisites such as .NET framework and IE version etc.
BTW what is the edition of XP & edition of CTP used?|||I am trying to install the september ctp enterprise edition on a machine with xp/sp2. I have reviewed the prereqs and I meet all of them. It says XP with sp2 and 512 ram; both are satisfied. I don't see any prereqs for .NET and I think that is because it installs .NET 2.0 when it installs. Any other ideas?|||Here is the warning I get when starting the install of the september CTP Enterprise version on a machine with XP/SP2 installed. If i continue to the components available for install, then the only thing enabled is 'Workstation components, ...'. All the actual database stuff is disable for install.

SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility

Some components of this edition of SQL Server are not supported on this operating system. For details, see 'Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005' in Microsoft SQL Server Books Online.

|||Enterprise Edition needs a server OS. You can install Express, Workgroup, Std and Developer Editions on XP, ie Desktop OS's|||I figured that was the problem. However, the download site does list XP/SP2 as a compatible OS for the enterprise edition. The bullet below was copied directly from the download page.

Supported Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2

Error while trying to create a new connection in Visual C# Express 2005

Hi, the other day i decided to download and install C# Express and SQL Server Express 2005. I created a new project in C# Express then I decided to practice with database connectivity so I tried to create a new connection, in the wizard I specified SQL Server Authentication, typed the user name and password and when I pushed the button "Test Connection" I recieve this error message "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. The connection will be closed". I also have tried Windows Autentication, but it displays a more complex error that says something about the database file being used by other process. I have been trying to solve this problem, but nothing works. I think I need some help.Tongue TiedSad

While adding a Data Source in VB2005EE I also got this error which you received:

"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. The connection will be closed."

Solution that worked for me:

On the "Add Connection" Dialog, click the "Advanced" Button. Go to the Property "User Instance" under "Source". Change the value to "False" & you are done.

Error While Installing SQLServer CE

Hi,
I'm attempting to install SQL Server CE on a freshly built Windows XP (IIS 5.1).
I am an administrator on the machine.
I have run Windows Update on the Server, installed .NET Framework 1.1 SP1
and SQL Server 2000 with Service pack ...SP3a.
My Sql Server Registration lists the Product Version as 8.00.760.
I have attempted to install SQL Server CE using the setup.exe version
2.11.15.0 and sqlce20sql2ksp3a.exe version 2.11.15.0.
I have rebooted the machine.
I still get the error "SQL Server CE Server Tools is compatible only with
SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1 or higher. etc..."
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Sailu

Try running MSI (You can extract sqlce20sql2ksp3a.exe into a folder and get the MSI). This is a work around. But, one thing cleear is why Version Check by setup.exe fails.

You need to have IIS installed on your machine for Reporting Service to get installed.

What are the errors when you install RS2005? The setup wizard should tell you.

To stop IIS, run "iisreset /stop".

Error while executing the Best Practice Group

Hi,
I've tried to install the BPA on two different SQL servers, but in every
case I get the following error executing it (bellow). I've reinstalled
several times and used different computers and SQL's. The .NET framework is
1.1. Any ideas?
"Error while executing the Best Practice Group. See the log file
Cmpl_javierx_0001_1.1.1.1_sqlbpa.log. Error message: Execution log not found
in the repository"
Thanks
Any ideas? Anyone?

|||Hi Javier,
If you didn't find your solution yet, I've got the same problem as you
but fix it by unchecking the no Count option on in the SQL Server Properties.
In the connection Tab, you will need to uncheck "no Count"... Try that, it
should fix the problem...

Sorry for the late reply... The servers we use need the "No Count" option
checked for an application to work... Is there another way to fix this?
