ERROR: Failure to compile WMI file

I received this error at the end of the "Reporting Services" setup.

I checked WMI process in Services and everything is OK, it's running.

So far I was able to install Designer Tools only (unchecking Report Manager and Report server).

All system components are up to date and SQL Server SP3 is installed.

I would highly appreciate it if somebody could help me out. It's now matter of survival to me.

Thanks in advance,

Confused Virginian

You also need SP3a to install Reporting Services. Hope this helps.|||

Caddre,

Thank you for your help. I already have SP3 installed.

Eventually I found the fix, right there:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp

This article explains how to recreate corrupted WMI repository.

Error: Email Subscription to Report (Sharepoint Integrated Mode) Options

I encounter this error when user try to subscribe using email delivery
to one of the report. I have configured the Reporting Services to use
Sharepoint integrated mode. This user is a regular user that has read
access to the report item.

Below is the message detail:

Is it true that user needs to have administrator privilege in order to
subscribe for report? I don't think so, right?

Hi Gunady,

Non-admin users can only send a report to an email address that is specified in the SharePoint user profile for that user. Can you check the "TO" field and ensure that the email address is that of the user as seen in the SharePoint user profile?

Thanks,

Sharmila

Thank you for the answer. Is this restriction apply to cc or bcc as well?

Yes, it applies to all.

is there a way around this?

Is there a way to setup on per-report basis?

I'm using reporting services within sharepoint as a content delivery solution, I need teh users to be able ost chedule reports and have them delivered by email to thair sharpoint drop box and/or to their customers staright from teh subscripton interface

I'm able to do this as admin but I need teh users to be able to do the same

I tried looking in the rsreportsever.config but can not figure out how to do this, I set <sendemailtouseralias>False but still nothing,

I also dont have the otion for CC: or BCC: when I'm loged in with nonadministrative account.

There must be an option for this but I'm not finding it in any documentation

I'm running Reporting Services SP2 in WSS3 integrated mode

Please advice and help...

Error: 14258

Hi Guru,
I just found out that one of my SQL 2005 reporting server is
experiencing this issue.
"Error 14258: Cannot perform this operation while SQLServerAgent is
starting. Try again later."
I've seen lots people fixed this issue by switching to thread mode.
However, the server has only 1 CPU and of course is running on default
configuration(thread mode).
We had a vendor used their tool (JAVA BASED) to pull data from Oracle
to SQL Server. I terminated this process a week ago when I found out
this tool would take three weeks to import 18 million records from
Oracle to SQL Server. SQL Server has been rolling back more than a week
and expecting a few more days to be completed.
Is this rolling back causing error 14258?
Thanks so much,Not likely from the rollback but more likely from the SQL Agent
service being stuck in a starting state (as opposed to a started
state). Did you check the SQL Agent error log - the SQLAgent.out file
in the default log directory for your installation?
Did you try restarting SQL Agent?
Did you check the System event log on the server where SQL Agent is
suppose to be running and check for any errors related to the service?

Thanks very much for your response. Below is the output from
SQLAgent.out file. I veriffied SQLAGENT is running from:
Configuration Manager - Started
Serice Applet - Started
EXEC master..xp_servicecontrol 'QueryState','SQLServerAgent' status is
running.
GO
I stopped and restart agent many times with both NT domain and
localsystem account but nothing worked.
Other than that, I don't see any related errors on both NT and SQL
logs.
Please let me know if you have different thoughts now.

Error with Subscription

Hai, this is Srinivas Reddy. i have a problem in reporting services.

i have a parameter in one of my report, that parameter contains morethan 1300 rows. it is working fine with execution. but when i try to create a subscription, even the subscription page is not getting opened, instead i am getting an error "Error in XML document(1,10272)". I came to know that when this parameter contains less than 1213 rows (values), i am not getting this error and working fine with subscriptions.

I tried with another report which contains a parameter with 10 lakh rows queried against the same database , working fine with the subscription. so i came to know there is no limit for parameter values when it comes to subscriptions.

But, what might be the problem in my case?

If anybody knows this please help me.

Thanks in advance.

Can you post the corresponding error from the Report server logs - Reporting Services\Log Files\ReportingServices*.log

It could be caused by unprintable characters in the parameter's data.

Error with SP1 upgrade for reporting services

Hi,

I just tried to install SP1 for SQL 2005. All of the steps succeeded except for the upgrade for Reporting Services, which failed with the error "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file". When I checked the log there were a whole host of errors such as

"12/19/2006 09:06:41.031 Failed to read associated hotfix build information for the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\Bin\ja\reportingserviceswebuserinterface.resources.dll"

and

"12/19/2006 09:06:41.203 Failed to read version information for the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\es\help\f1_rsc_webui_standalone_5yr5.htm"

and

"12/19/2006 09:06:47.093 Failed to read registry key: Debug"

I am running a default instance, and was running the install under an account with local admin privileges.

The errors you mentioned are verbose logging messages that show up in almost all logs. Can you search that msp file for the test string "value 3" and post the 10-15 lines before that? That should give us a more descriptive error message.

Thanks,

We are adding a second web server to our farm. Reporting Services is installed on one web server as Rpt01 instance and works just fine. We have installed the second web server also with an instance named Rpt01 and are now trying to configure to re-use the same database as the first server. When we restart services we get the error listed below.

I was wondering if there was an issue with the same named instances on two different web servers accessing the same ReportServer01 database? This is the error that we are getting. Any help would be appreciated. The curious thing is that our databases are named ReportServer01 and ReportServer01TempDB and not the name listed below.

ReportingServicesService!schedule!4!1/23/2007-15:40:20:: Unhandled exception caught in Scheduling maintenance thread: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'ReportServerTempDB.dbo.ExecutionCache'.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)

Same Named instances should work fine. Check in the RSConfigTool for each instance in the webfarm , they are connected to ReportServer01 database and they are properly initialized. Was the second instance immediately joined in the farm or it operated as a standalone RS Server where some schedules were created?|||

Thanks for the response. The first instance may have had some schedules created but the second one was installed and configured immediately. I have uninstalled the second instance and reinstalled but am getting exact same issue. I used a different instance name this time, Rpt02, just so I could see reference differences.

Also when I uninstalled the second web server instance, it was never removed from the initialized list of the farm. I try to manually remove it using the Config tool and it gives an unknown error has occurred message. After reinstalling the second instance I am able to successfully add it to the initialized list. Still a little worried that an instance that no longer exists still appears in the list...

|||The uninstalled instance appearing in the initialization list should not be any problem. Are the schedules firing correctly now?|||No. Strangest thing... We can't get any subscriptions to work on this installation. We can create subscriptions and I see that the sql agent runs the scheduled job but then nothing else happens. No errors are logged and no mail arrives.|||I am now being told that if you rename your ReportServer database (which I did) and then set configuration to this database that this error could occur. I'm looking for the correct steps for renaming your ReportServer database. If anyone has them could you share? I will probably go back to the old name since it sounds like I am stuck with that name.|||

The problem has been fixed. I found one trigger in the ReportServer01 database that was referencing the old ReportServerTempDB database. I corrected the name and all is good now.

I'm told that we shouldn't change our database name after the ReportServer database has been created so I will follow that for future. Here's the trigger that I had to change.

CREATE TRIGGER [Schedule_UpdateExpiration] ON [dbo].[Schedule]
AFTER UPDATE
AS
UPDATE
EC
SET
AbsoluteExpiration = I.NextRunTime
FROM
[ReportServerTempDB].dbo.ExecutionCache AS EC
INNER JOIN ReportSchedule AS RS ON EC.ReportID = RS.ReportID
INNER JOIN inserted AS I ON RS.ScheduleID = I.ScheduleID AND RS.ReportAction = 3

Maybe someone can help me. I am running the reporting service add in for Sharepoint and we have only Basic Authentication running on our site (it is on SSL). When i try and open a report in sharepoint it errors out on me. When i go back into IIS and set Windows and Basic authentication it works, but it requires me to enter our domain and username. We need to only use Basic so it will not need the domain. Anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to make this work?i'm having this issue, too. help?

Where I am going wrong.

we are now in the stage of deploying and we are getting this kind of errors

can you help me out ?

Hi,

seems that you screwed up the configuration files. To see which one is corrupted (your web services seems to work), navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager or the appropiate path in your installation and validate the XML files by the schema mentioned in the header of the file.

If you have no tools to validate through the schema, you can also take a fresh and working file from antoher instalaltion and look for typos or any things that are different to your damaged file.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

Reporting Services can′t open a connection to the reporting services database, this can have many reasons:

You specified the wrong connectiong string / the wrong server / database combination and / or username / password in the configuration application.|||

hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I have IIS 5.1 installed on my pc.

One more thing to note is my pc name contains '_'.

I had reporting service installed successfully with studio 2003. and it works also fine. But now i have requirement to work on framework 2.0 So i installed the sql 2005 and sql reporting service for studio 2005.

That is installed successfully. But i am trying to setup this configuration for the sql 2000 on my local pc.

I am creating the default database default virtual directory and default windows service identity, web service identity. Everything setup fine. But only problem is with the Encryption keys and the initialization. When i click on initialization i get the above error. If i click on the Encryption key i have only option restore available.

you wrote "If you don′t have a valid backup of the key you will have to clear all the content from the reporting services database to start the database from scratch. If you have a backup of the key via the console."

I think this may cause the problem. Can you please let me know how to clear all the content from the reporting services database?

I also apply all the other solutions from the question asked by other users. But still no success.

Please reply me.

Thanks.

Are you working on SQL2k now orSQL2k5 ? For SQL2k5 there is an option under ENrytion keys which reads "Delete" and will delete all active content in the reporting database. You can also use the rskeymgmt -Delete command from the DOS prompt for deleting data.

I am working on sql 2000. What i did is i reinstall the sql reporting service but still same error.

When i try to Delete the encryption or create the new encryption key it gives me same error.

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help|||

Vaibhav,

The problem is that the report server cannot connect to the SQL Server that is running on your machine. You should go to the database settings tab in the Report Server Configuration tool, connect to the desired SQL Server instance, then either choose an existing report server database or create a new one.

If you cannot connect to the SQL Server instance from this tool, the report server will not be able to connect either. You'll need to determine why - most commonly on my dev machine the SQL Server is simply not set to start by default and I need to start it. The error in the configuration tool about initialization is just symptomatic of the fact that you cannot connect to the SQL Server instance.

Hope that helps,

-Lukasz
