ERROR: Failure to compile WMI file

I received this error at the end of the "Reporting Services" setup.

I checked WMI process in Services and everything is OK, it's running.

So far I was able to install Designer Tools only (unchecking Report Manager and Report server).

All system components are up to date and SQL Server SP3 is installed.

I would highly appreciate it if somebody could help me out. It's now matter of survival to me.

Thanks in advance,

Confused Virginian

You also need SP3a to install Reporting Services. Hope this helps.|||

Caddre,

Thank you for your help. I already have SP3 installed.

Eventually I found the fix, right there:

This article explains how to recreate corrupted WMI repository.

Error: Email Subscription to Report (Sharepoint Integrated Mode) Options

I encounter this error when user try to subscribe using email delivery
to one of the report. I have configured the Reporting Services to use
Sharepoint integrated mode. This user is a regular user that has read
access to the report item.

Below is the message detail:

Is it true that user needs to have administrator privilege in order to
subscribe for report? I don't think so, right?

Hi Gunady,

Non-admin users can only send a report to an email address that is specified in the SharePoint user profile for that user. Can you check the "TO" field and ensure that the email address is that of the user as seen in the SharePoint user profile?

Thanks,

Sharmila

Thank you for the answer. Is this restriction apply to cc or bcc as well?

Yes, it applies to all.

is there a way around this?

Is there a way to setup on per-report basis?

I'm using reporting services within sharepoint as a content delivery solution, I need teh users to be able ost chedule reports and have them delivered by email to thair sharpoint drop box and/or to their customers staright from teh subscripton interface

I'm able to do this as admin but I need teh users to be able to do the same

I tried looking in the rsreportsever.config but can not figure out how to do this, I set <sendemailtouseralias>False but still nothing,

I also dont have the otion for CC: or BCC: when I'm loged in with nonadministrative account.

There must be an option for this but I'm not finding it in any documentation

I'm running Reporting Services SP2 in WSS3 integrated mode

Please advice and help...

Error/Failure Audit in Event Logs (SQL 2005 Express) [Advanced Services]

Q1: Any way to control which db loads when, and perhaps stop this error from happening? Again- when all is said and done, the report server functions, and I am able to access just fine.

Q2: What kind of recovery is being referred to? Given the message type- I assume it's nothing of concern- probably more to do with a system that doesn't run all the time.

Okay- so I get these two event messages each time I boot.

Below are two error message I see daily with each system boot- the services mentioned do "actually" function, and are running- as not 10 seconds after these messages are logged, the successfully loaded messages appear. It's almost as if report services tries to connect before the databases are up and running.

Basically the sequence (today) was:

1. 05:49:01 Failure Audit (MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS)

2. 05:49:01 Error (Report Server Windows Service (SQLEXPRESS)

3. 05:49:02 Recovery is complete. (EventID 3408 MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS)

4. 05:49:06 Starting up database 'ReportServer'

5. 05:49:09 Server Resumed execution (MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS)

I'm assuming based on the events that Report Server Service attempts to connect to the ReportServer database before it's actually started. Doesn't really explain the failure audit-

1. Failure Audit:

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS
Event Category: (4)
Event ID: 18456
Date: 8/9/2007
Time: 05:49:01
User: <MACHINENAME>\<LOCALUSER>
Computer: <MACHINENAME>
Description:
Login failed for user '<MACHINENAME>\<LOCALUSER>'.

[CLIENT: <local machine>]

This is almost immediately followed by this (which I consider a no-brainer, considering the above):

2. Error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Report Server Windows Service (SQLEXPRESS)
Event Category: Management
Event ID: 107
Date: 8/9/2007
Time: 05:49:01
User: N/A
Computer: <MACHINENAME>
Description:
Report Server Windows Service (SQLEXPRESS) cannot connect to the report server database.

The master database is started first, you cannot control the order in which the database are started up. if the users tries to connect to the database he will be authenticated by SQL Server and directly tries to change the default database or if explicitly mentioned in the connection string connect to the database. if the database is not yet started he will get a login failed (although authenticated but he was not able to change the database context). if you have these problems, try to set the dependency of Report Server to the SQL Service to make sure that Reporting Server will only be started if the SQL Server Service has been. This might help you getting some additional time for the server to make a regular recovery (which is normal if the database / server was not shutdown properly)

Error with Subscription

Hai, this is Srinivas Reddy. i have a problem in reporting services.

i have a parameter in one of my report, that parameter contains morethan 1300 rows. it is working fine with execution. but when i try to create a subscription, even the subscription page is not getting opened, instead i am getting an error "Error in XML document(1,10272)". I came to know that when this parameter contains less than 1213 rows (values), i am not getting this error and working fine with subscriptions.

I tried with another report which contains a parameter with 10 lakh rows queried against the same database , working fine with the subscription. so i came to know there is no limit for parameter values when it comes to subscriptions.

But, what might be the problem in my case?

If anybody knows this please help me.

Thanks in advance.

Can you post the corresponding error from the Report server logs - Reporting Services\Log Files\ReportingServices*.log

It could be caused by unprintable characters in the parameter's data.

Error with SP1 upgrade for reporting services

Hi,

I just tried to install SP1 for SQL 2005. All of the steps succeeded except for the upgrade for Reporting Services, which failed with the error "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file". When I checked the log there were a whole host of errors such as

"12/19/2006 09:06:41.031 Failed to read associated hotfix build information for the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\Bin\ja\reportingserviceswebuserinterface.resources.dll"

and

"12/19/2006 09:06:41.203 Failed to read version information for the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\es\help\f1_rsc_webui_standalone_5yr5.htm"

and

"12/19/2006 09:06:47.093 Failed to read registry key: Debug"

I am running a default instance, and was running the install under an account with local admin privileges.

The errors you mentioned are verbose logging messages that show up in almost all logs. Can you search that msp file for the test string "value 3" and post the 10-15 lines before that? That should give us a more descriptive error message.

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

error with scale-out web server: Invalid object name

We are adding a second web server to our farm. Reporting Services is installed on one web server as Rpt01 instance and works just fine. We have installed the second web server also with an instance named Rpt01 and are now trying to configure to re-use the same database as the first server. When we restart services we get the error listed below.

I was wondering if there was an issue with the same named instances on two different web servers accessing the same ReportServer01 database? This is the error that we are getting. Any help would be appreciated. The curious thing is that our databases are named ReportServer01 and ReportServer01TempDB and not the name listed below.

Same Named instances should work fine. Check in the RSConfigTool for each instance in the webfarm , they are connected to ReportServer01 database and they are properly initialized. Was the second instance immediately joined in the farm or it operated as a standalone RS Server where some schedules were created?|||

Thanks for the response. The first instance may have had some schedules created but the second one was installed and configured immediately. I have uninstalled the second instance and reinstalled but am getting exact same issue. I used a different instance name this time, Rpt02, just so I could see reference differences.

Also when I uninstalled the second web server instance, it was never removed from the initialized list of the farm. I try to manually remove it using the Config tool and it gives an unknown error has occurred message. After reinstalling the second instance I am able to successfully add it to the initialized list. Still a little worried that an instance that no longer exists still appears in the list...

|||The uninstalled instance appearing in the initialization list should not be any problem. Are the schedules firing correctly now?|||No. Strangest thing... We can't get any subscriptions to work on this installation. We can create subscriptions and I see that the sql agent runs the scheduled job but then nothing else happens. No errors are logged and no mail arrives.|||I am now being told that if you rename your ReportServer database (which I did) and then set configuration to this database that this error could occur. I'm looking for the correct steps for renaming your ReportServer database. If anyone has them could you share? I will probably go back to the old name since it sounds like I am stuck with that name.|||

The problem has been fixed. I found one trigger in the ReportServer01 database that was referencing the old ReportServerTempDB database. I corrected the name and all is good now.

I'm told that we shouldn't change our database name after the ReportServer database has been created so I will follow that for future. Here's the trigger that I had to change.

CREATE TRIGGER [Schedule_UpdateExpiration] ON [dbo].[Schedule]
AFTER UPDATE
AS
UPDATE
EC
SET
AbsoluteExpiration = I.NextRunTime
FROM
[ReportServerTempDB].dbo.ExecutionCache AS EC
INNER JOIN ReportSchedule AS RS ON EC.ReportID = RS.ReportID
INNER JOIN inserted AS I ON RS.ScheduleID = I.ScheduleID AND RS.ReportAction = 3

Hi,

seems that you screwed up the configuration files. To see which one is corrupted (your web services seems to work), navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager or the appropiate path in your installation and validate the XML files by the schema mentioned in the header of the file.

If you have no tools to validate through the schema, you can also take a fresh and working file from antoher instalaltion and look for typos or any things that are different to your damaged file.

return dateOut;

{
string printDate;
Utilities util;
util = new Utilities();
printDate = util.WeekEndDate(args[0]).ToString();
Console.WriteLine(printDate);
}
*/
}
}
The only thing that I can think of is that my refs to System.Globalization
aren't available.
Thanks for any help.

said that it didn't. Please remove this entry.

Hi,

seems like the application account from IIS or the app pool is running under an account which is not privileged to read those file located on the hard drive. YOu reither give him the appropiate right, or use e.g. a Local System account.

I try to generate ad hoc reporting model for analysis services cube in reporting services.
in Management Studio I connected to reporting services, defined a data source to the analysis services database.
But If i try to generate model i get the error:

Any ideas as to what may be the problem?
Thanks!

Error while debugging the script task

I am getting an while trying to run the script task in debug mode in SSIS package.

"SQL Server Integration Services Script Task has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Any idea why i am getting this error.

Thanks,

Deepak,

Did you ever find a solution to your issue? I'm having the same thing.

Thanks,
Todd

|||I don't know what the problem is, but I had the same problem as you. I found that I had some Breakpoints sit in other script tasks. When you select the Debug Menu -> Delete All Breakpoints, I assumed it deleted all breakpoints. However, it doesn't seem to clear them out of the script tasks very well. Anyway, I went into every Script Task .NET code and explicity looked and removed all breakpoints. Then, I executed the package. Finally, I added my desired breakpoints back into the particular script task I was debugging. I hope that helps.
