ERROR: Failure to compile WMI file

I received this error at the end of the "Reporting Services" setup.

I checked WMI process in Services and everything is OK, it's running.

So far I was able to install Designer Tools only (unchecking Report Manager and Report server).

All system components are up to date and SQL Server SP3 is installed.

I would highly appreciate it if somebody could help me out. It's now matter of survival to me.

Thanks in advance,

Confused Virginian

You also need SP3a to install Reporting Services. Hope this helps.|||

Caddre,

Thank you for your help. I already have SP3 installed.

Eventually I found the fix, right there:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp

This article explains how to recreate corrupted WMI repository.

I had VS 2005 RC installed along with the Sep CTP of SQL Server (tools only)

Then I installed VS 2003 on that same machine. Now, everytime I lauch VS

The configuration file RSReportDesigner.config could not be loaded.
The type initializer for "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.Global"

I don't even use reporting services. Does anyone know how to make this

Error: Backup Log terminating abnormally

hi
i am using sql server 2000. when i try to backup log file it throws out the following error and hence the second command that is dbcc shrinkfile never gets executed. if i restart sql server and re-run these commands ... no error pops up ... both the comma
nds get completed sccessfully and log file gets shrunk too.
these are the commands that i run
BACKUP LOG BAMPrimaryImport WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY
DBCC SHRINKFILE ( BAMPrimaryImport_log, 500 )
this is the error that i get
Server: Msg 3023, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
Backup and file manipulation operations (such as ALTER DATABASE ADD FILE) on a database must be serialized. Reissue the statement after the current backup or file manipulation operation is completed.
Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.
I am quite sure that no other command is active at the time when i issue these commands, still i get error. any help will be appreciated.
regards
yashrah.
Hi
Can you check your SQL Error log for the message when this command failed,
also can you please provide the SQL Server 2000 Service pack level.
you can get the Service pack level by running select @.@.version from query
analyzer.
Also, do you have replication set up, if yes, what kind of replication?
3023 means, It thinks there is some concurrent database operation going on
that is blocking the ALTER DATABASE, because it is unable to acquire the
database lock.

Sadeesh

Below message is frequently appearing in error log file. Before posting this
issue I searched net but I am not sure how to overcome this issue as it is
Production System and I am not much aware of SQL Server 2000. I can count on
table 'ComputerVulnerability' but cannot export the data. Your guidance will
be highly appreciated in helping and solving the issue before it become
critical.

Hello,
As a first step execute a DBCC CHECKDB and get mofre information on the
error. To solve this you may need to try executing the DBCC with
REPAIR_REBUILD and if the issue is not solved you may need to take a backup
of database execute DBCC CHECKDB with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS .
If nothing works out you may need to restore from a last good backup. In
parallel you could create a Microsoft case and get the help of microsoft

Error: 5123 CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5A(Access denied.)

HI ,

This is a problem I encountered when I had to detach a database file (type .mdf):

1) I went to the MS SQL Management Server Studi and detached my database file successfully from a connection called Workhorse.

2) I needed to place the .mdf database file into a zip file in order to put it on a remote server. I did this using Shared Portal. This was also successful

3) However when I tried reattaching the database file, I got this error:

CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5A(Access denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file "C\Program Files\MSSQL Server\MSSQL\Data\<databasename>.mdf'

Q) The database file and log file (ldf) exist in the correct directory so I don't know what happened. Can any one help?

Thanks much

Hi Tonate,

I got the solution for this. I proud this is my first blog to provide the answer on internet

I got the same error too:

CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5A(Access denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file "C\Program Files\MSSQL Server\MSSQL\Data\<databasename>.mdf'

the solution is:

set the Operating system permission on that .mdf file to full permission to 'Everyone' in new server.

this will helps me to attach the database in other server..

Have a Great Day..

Well that could be a security issue, its better to give permission to the SQL Server account.

I know this problem was probably solved, but just in case it wasn't, this was my solution to the exact same problem when attempting to do exactly what you tried (detaching, zipping, then re-attaching the database file *.mdf) using SQL Server 2005 with Mgmt Server Studio. First, Stop all SQL services, Secondly, go to the sql folder (default: MSSQL) and right click on it and see if you can change your folder and all subfolder atrributes to NOT read only (unchecked). I noticed that on my server, the log and data files could not be changed. So I immediately went to those files *.ldf and *.mdf and took ownership of both of them (the permissions can easily get wacked). Once I did that, I was able to zip them and move them to safer ground. I then restarted all SQL Services, and was able to re-attach the *.mdf file. If you are like me, you probably log in using a few different usernames and move files around a lot. For some odd reason, our permissions get hosed up from time to time. I hope this helped.

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16

Hi All,
I am getting the following error in the ERRORLOG File when I am trying
to connect to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition from the command line.
2007-03-23 07:30:05.54 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State:
16.
2007-03-23 07:30:05.54 Logon Login failed for user 'sa'.
[CLIENT: xx.xx.xx.xx]
I have a fresh install of SQL Server on my local machine, which is
probably the source of my angst, but I am trying to create a database
from scratch through using a batch file that is run from the command
line, the batch file looks like this:
<snip>
SQLCMD -U %USR% -P %PWD% -S %SVR% -d %DBF% -i CreateDatabase.sql
<snip>
The values of %USR% and %PWD% are correct as I frequently log into
Management Studio with the details, %SVR% is "<ComputerName>
\SQLEXPRESS,1433" and %DBF% is <DatabaseName>. The contents of
CreateDatabase.sql when run in Management Studio successfully creates
the database that I require so I know the error doesn't lie there.
The command line error that is showing reads as the following:
Msg 4060, Level 11, State 1, Server <ComputerName>\SQLEXPRESS, Line 1
Cannot open database "<DatabaseName>" requested by the login. The
login failed.
Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Server <ComputerName>\SQLEXPRESS, Line 1
Login failed for user 'sa'.
I have a feeling that it is related to 'sa' not having the correct
permissions with regards to logging into or creating a database from
scratch, but I find it odd that I can login as 'sa' in Management
Studio and create the database from there, but when I try it from the
command-line (despite having TCP/IP enabled) it won't let me connect
to create a database.
Is there something I am missing here? I have been banging my head off
of walls for days over this and am unsure of the next steps to take.
If any of this screams "why the hell are you doing this?" then please
let me know as at the moment I am punching in the dark with this
problem, I have searched Usenet, Google Groups, the Web and although I
have found potential solutions to this particular problem I am having,
nothing I have done so far has actually managed to fix the issue.

The only double quotes that it contains are those that surround the
password in the .bat file.
Should these be single quotes?|||Normally this should work, did you try conencting with the same syntax that
you are using in the batch file via an interactive commandprompt ? Did you
try to leave out the quotes ?

Hi Jens,
Thanks for the input on this it is very much appreciated,
I tried running the batch file without quotations around the strings
and I still get the same error, I also tried single quotes, but the
command-line processor was interpreting them as part of the strings.
I took your advice and tried running it straight from the command-line
without using the .bat file, and still the same error came screaming
back at me.

I've done some further hunting around for solutions, could it
potentially be related to "sa" not having any permissions in the
SYS.DATABASE_PERMISSIONS table?|||No, sa has by default access to everything, including the internal data.

Error. My aspx file cant access server to connect to database

Hi,

I am writing my first aspx file to connect to a standalone SQL Server which is separated from the IIS webserver. The code is

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Store Locator</TITLE>
<script runat="server">
Sub Page_Load(ByVal Sender as Object, ByVal E as EventArgs)
if Not IsPostBack Then
Dim DBConn as OleDbConnection
Dim DBCommand As OleDbDataAdapter
Dim DSPageData as New DataSet
DBConn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=sqloledb;" _
& "server=dailyplanet;" _
& "Initial Catalog=JAVSTORE;" _
& "User Id=javtrader;" _
& "Password=rage123;")
DBCommand = New OleDbDataAdapter _
("Select * " _
& "From JAVInventory " _
& "Where ID > ((Select COUNT(ID) " _
& "From JAVInventory ) - 100)" _
& "Order By ID DESC", DBConn)
DBCommand.Fill(DSPageData, _
"RecentJAVs")
' ddlZipCode.DataSource = _
' DSPageData.Tables("RecentJAVs").DefaultView
' ddlZipCode.DataBind()
End If
End Sub

I used Visual .Net and Web Matrix and was able to connect to the sql server with the Data Connection to view the tables. However, when I use IIS or the Visual .Net debugger to run the aspx file, it get the following error.. please help..

This can be formed in two ways, one using a trusted connection, or the other being uid=; and pwd=; the login and password for sql respectively. Either version of the connection string must include the server name, which is localhost, 127.0.0.1 if on the localmachine or the actual name or ip of the server.

Error Working With DTS -- "Class Not Registered"

I have a DTS package (stored in a .dts file) that was created in SQL Server 2000 and I am trying to work with it in SQL 2005. When I try to import it into the Legacy > Data Transformation Services node in Management Studio, I get a window that reads "Class Not Registered (Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package)". I get the same error if I try to just execute the package itself from a query window.

I have Legacy Support installed, and I also have Integration Services installed.

Any ideas? We have three installations of SQL 2005 and I am getting the same error on all of them.

Have you installed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=df0ba5aa-b4bd-4705-aa0a-b477ba72a9cb&displaylang=en

The DTS designer does not get installed with SSIS.

Thanks.

Error with Openrowset

I have a text file, that I need to import to SQL. I am trying to do this using OPENROWSET. This is the qry i use below.

select * from OpenRowset('MSDASQL',
'Driver={Microsoft Text Driver
(*.txt; *.csv)};
DefaultDir=c:\edge;',
'select * from
vwConstrLendingLoanDefiDetailReady.txt')

I have created a System DSN, For the microsoft text driver. Anyhow it throws this error:

Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ].

Any idea why?

If this is in SQL 2005

Go to Surface Area Configuration->Surface Area Configuration for Features
Database Engine->Ad Hoc Remote Queries
Make sure 'Enable OPENROWSET and OPENDATASOURCE Support' is checked.|||It is SQL SERVER 2000. I have used Openrowset while connecting to other dbs like SQL Server etc...|||i FOUND THE Fix. I had an extra space, in mjy qry. Fixed that and it was able to execute the qry, and return the data.
