We decided to try this after getting frustrated by

Error: ""The transaction has exceeded the allotted time"

I receive this error "The transaction has exceeded the allotted time" in a pop-up sometimes when I use DTS. This happens in an alleatory way, when I run a package, when I try to open a package or save it, and normally happens when the machine is very busy with another process. I'm running SQL Server 2000 with SP2, and Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP2.

Thank you very much in advance,

XavierWas any one able to find an answer to this? I'm getting the exact same error. Thanks.

Thanks.

When you save a Data Transformation Services (DTS) package, you save all DTS connections, DTS tasks, DTS transformations, and workflow steps and preserve the graphical layout of these objects on the DTS Designer design sheet.

You can save a package to:

Microsoft SQL Server.
With this default save option, you can store a package as a SQL Server msdb table, allowing you to: store packages on any instances of SQL Server on your network; keep a convenient inventory of saved packages in SQL Server Enterprise Manager; and create, delete, and branch multiple package versions during the package development process.

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services.
With this save option, you can maintain historical information about the data manipulated by the package. However, Meta Data Services and the repository database must be installed and operational on your server. You can track the columns and tables that are used by the package as a source or destination. You also can use the data lineage feature to track which version of a package created a particular row. You can use these types of information for decision-support applications.

I wouldn't use WMI for this. I'd probably write a script task to periodically check for the file and sleep in between. Or use the File Watcher task. http://www.sqlis.com/23.aspx

I've played around with the WMI components some, but not enough to remember proper syntax...

That said, you might look at the fact that you're specifying the Win32_Directory.GroupComponent as an individual file. I believe you might want it as the PartComponent.

Error with linked Servers

I am having an extremely difficult time getting a linked server to
work. I am attempting to link to using an ODBC driver to a proprietary
database. I can create the ODBC connection and see the tables from
with Access using this connection. I can set up the linked server but
as soon as I attempt to view the tables it either gives me an error
7399 or just sits there. Any help would be appreciative and if there
are any other questions I need to answer just let me know.
Thanks,
Matt
Can you elaborate on how are you connecting via Access and how are you using
to create the linked server?

Error with Linked Servers

From time to time the linked servers we have set up cannot be accessed. When
I click on the tables node under the linked server within enterprise manager
the session hangs and no error message is displayed. When querying the data
via an openquery no error is thrown, the query simply runs until manually
aborted.
I've created a linked server OK but immediately cannot open it. The only way
around this problem we have is a reboot of the server. Does anyone know how
to resolve this problem and also what would cause this.
Thanks

Error with Execute sql task and full result set: " not been initialized before calling 'Fi

This is the first time I've tried creating an "execute sql task" with a "full result set".

I've read in the documentation that I must set the resultname to 0, which is done, and that the variable must be of type object. Also done.

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "select * from blah" failed with the following error: "The SelectCommand property has not been initialized before calling 'Fill'.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

Has anyone else had success with a full result set?

Thanks,
-Lori

Yes. I have an example doing exactly this here:

SSIS Nugget: Execute SQL Task into an object variable - Shred it with a Foreach loop
(http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2005/07/04/1748.aspx)

-Jamie

|||Jamie,

The variable *is* of type Object (i believe i mentioned that).
Since this fails, I cannot move forward with the foreach loop.

I'm using 64bit sql server but debugging in Run64BitRuntime as False.

Any other ideas?

Afraid not. Without being there its hard to say what the problem might be.

|||I noticed that you said in your blog, "just update the connection to point to your sql server". I thought I should mention that I'm actually trying to run this against a mysql server, with an ADO.net connection. I don't think that should matter, but who knows?

I will then update my question to be:
has anyone gotten a full result set to work with an ADO.net connection?|||

I'd bevery surprised if that was anything to do with it but who knows - give it a try.

Also note that my example used OLE DB Connection Manager rather than ADO.Net. That could be an avenue of investigation also.

Error while using first time!

I'm trying to learn about SQL databases and use them for my asp.net app sine I cant get the hang of MySQL in ASP. Every time I go to create a new SQL Database it saids: Would you like to place it in the App_Data folder basicly and I say yes. Then the error:

Unable to find DbProivderFactory for type System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection

Hi Clanstyles,

Based on the error message, I think the provider factory was not installed properly on you machine. Or the configuration files might not be written correctly.

Please try the following:

1. Open machine.config file under C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
2. Check the nodes under configuration/system.data/DbProviderFactories to see if all the provider has been installed successfully. It has to look like this.

<DbProviderFactories>
<add name="Odbc Data Provider" invariant="System.Data.Odbc" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for Odbc" type="System.Data.Odbc.OdbcFactory, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
<add name="OleDb Data Provider" invariant="System.Data.OleDb" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for OleDb" type="System.Data.OleDb.OleDbFactory, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
<add name="OracleClient Data Provider" invariant="System.Data.OracleClient" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for Oracle" type="System.Data.OracleClient.OracleClientFactory, System.Data.OracleClient, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
<add name="SqlClient Data Provider" invariant="System.Data.SqlClient" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for SqlServer" type="System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientFactory, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
</DbProviderFactories>

Error while synchronizing merge replication for first time

I am trying to run the replication merge agent for the first time for a
replication. Several servers already replicate to the same server without
problems. I have replicated all the previous Publishers to my subscriber
with the identical setup with the exception of the user login into the
server. The user login sees the appropriate tables in the subscriber yet the
first synchronization errors with the following:

It sounds like the publisher login or the distributor login does not have
sufficient rights to pull the subscription.
Verify the subscriber can connect to the publisher - try a ping and map a
drive to the publisher from the subscriber and then verify the distributor
login assigned on the subscriber is in the dbo_role on the publisher and the
publisher login defined on the subscriber is in the pal on the publisher.

Error while previewing the report in Visual Studio 2005

Hi there,

The Visual Studio 2005 asks me to send an error report each time when I try to preview the reports. The reports are created in report server project in Visual Studio 2005.

Does anyone know why this is a problem?

Thanks

As a first step I would recommend to install SQL Server 2005 SP1 (http://www.microsoft.com/sql/sp1.mspx).

If you still encounter problems, you may want to try to directly publish the report to a report server and see if there are any publishing warnings or errors. Also posting the RDL file on this forum may help in further diagnosis.
