Error: Decision Trees found no splits for model

Hi,

I am trying to run one of the mining models from the book "Delivering BI using SQl Server 2005" but I am running into "Decision Trees found no splits for model". The mining structure has 4 columns, the fourth one being marked as "Predict Only". My Cube slice for the model has sufficient data in the cube. I am lost.. Help!!

Regards

I'm not familiar with the DM section of that book. Could you give more descriptions of the data and the problem? What does the root node of the tree look like? Are you predicting a continuous or discrete value? Etc.

If you want to see the data the data mining is using, turn Drillthrough on for the model and then do

SELECT * FROM <model name>.CASES

To see the cases that were used for training the model. If this shows anything odd, you may see what's wrong.

|||

The mining model was created using Customer Dimension and Sales Fact. Following are the details of the mining model

Data Mining Technique: Microsoft Decision Trees
Dimension: Customer
Case Key: Customer.CustomerName
Attributes Used: Gender, Num Of Cars Owned, Num of Childer at home
Mining Model Column Usage: All the above columns except Num of Childeren at Home are Input and Num of Childeren at Home is defined as Predicatble only
Content and Data Type: All the above three columns are defined as discrete and text

Please note that I am new to DM stuff and I might have missed something obvoious. From what I see, when I try to explore the mining model viewer in BI studio, I see only 2 levels and histogram only shows two values, "Missing" and the "", the later having all the values. Ideally, it should have the customer in the root, then split to Gender and then to Num Of Cars Owned. "The num of children at home" should have come fromthe mining prediction.

Thanks for your reply.

|||

When you create the mining model, select the Allow Drillthrough option on the final page of the data mining wizard. When you view the model, right click on the root node and select "Drillthrough". This will show you the data that was used to train the model. It seems that the data that is being used for your model likely isn't the same as was in the book. I am unfamiliar with the book, but if you browse the data and see that maybe Num Children doesn't have the values you expect, it may show you why the model doesn't look like the book's.

You may try e-mailing the book's author as well.

Error: Data Mining message

This may well be embarrasingly simple but....

I get this massage from Management Studion when I try to run any MDX

Error (Data mining): Either the user, LEONARD\Will Riley, does not have permission to access the referenced mining model, Contribution_Interest, or the object does not exist.

Is there something really simple I have missed?

Most likely you made syntax error in your MDX up tp a degree that it actually looks more like DMX than MDX, so AS tries to find mining model instead of cube. If you will paste your MDX statement, the forum should be able to help and fix it.|||

Yep, you got it

Once I plugged in what I knew to be some correctly structured MDX, the issue went away.

Cheers, Will

This works fine for other boxes of the same service pack levels. I've already read KB302477, which doesn't appear to apply, since I'm already several revisions beyond that. I'm unable to duplicate this in test.

Any ideas as to what I should look at next? Thanks.

-D.Check DB_option to see whether local and global cursors are default, SP1 for SQL2005 is older one and latest is SP2.

Also see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302477 that talks about hotfix.|||OK, I went back and read that article again. It says this happens "If a cursor is created on a system stored procedure that returns schema information from a remote server..." I'm sorry, but I'm still learning to program in SQL and I don't see where I'm doing that. Is it in the DELETE FROM statement? And that article talks about SQL 2000 SP2. I'm running SQL 2000 SP4 on that box. Would I still need the hotfix?

I tried this with a server running SQL2005 SP2 (Version 9.00.3159), and got the same error.

I also tried setting the cursor option on the databases involved on both servers, to both global and local, in all 4 configurations. Still getting the same error.

Any other ideas?

Error: connection is busy with results for another hstmt

Good Afternoon. I have a Crystal report that accesses a sql 2000 server. W
hen I run the report twice with the same parrameters. I get the following e
rror:
crystal reports connection is busy with results for another hstmt
As I understand it, this has to do with multiple record sets, and something
to the effect that my report is not consuming everything and therefore leavi
ng a cursor.
And while I understand that for the most part, I can't even begin to think h
ow to troubleshoot the report and find the problem. It's a HUGE report with
excess of 30 subreports. It is designed to only return 1 record, with nume
rous fields from throughout
the database placed on the report. Like I said it has numerous subreports,
and all are linked to the same URN. Anyway, is there anything I can do shor
t of upgrading the server to 2005?

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.

I'm getting login errors when trying to run reports both locally on the
report server and remotely on a client machine.
This is the error I get:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'RequestDataSource'.
(rsErrorOpeningConnection)
Cannot open database "<database name>" requested by the login. The login
failed. Login failed for user "<domain\username>".
Here's what I see in my SQL log:
2007-02-26 14:44:49.88 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.

Sometimes this occurs when the datasource has not yet been set up -or-
has not been set up correctly.

Hi
No, I've seen those errors since SQL Server 6.0. If a packet gets messed up
at network level, you end up with SQL Server receiving bad packets.
Setup SQL Server to only listen on TCP/IP and see if your problem goes away

|||We have this exact issue to, we have got around one issue with inserting or
updating text/image columns by specifying an explicit SQLDbType. But we are
now getting the same issue with other stored procedures. If we amend the sql
client to talk named pipes the the problem goes away, but this is not an
option for us. Any help much appreciated.

Error: 0xC001000E - connection not found

Hello,

Does anyone know what this error means and how to resolve it? I get this error when I attempt to run a Data Flow Task. The Data Flow Task has one subcomponent, a Flat File Source. I have set up the connection manager to access the flat file, which is on a local directory. I have tried everything to fix this. What could possibly be the problem?

Thanks

Go in and edit the flat file source - make sure it is pointing at the correct connection manager.

Out of interest, what is the point of a data-flow with only one component in it?

I am just trying to test for now, that is why there is only one component. Why add more components when I can't even get the one to work correctly.

Anyways I resolved the problem... this error was occuring on a DTS migrated pkg. Apparently there are some ghost connections that are persisting, so by starting the pkg from scratch the problem has disappeared. This is my theory anyways.

Ah gotcha. That makes sense.

Anyways I resolved the problem... this error was occuring on a DTS migrated pkg. Apparently there are some ghost connections that are persisting, so by starting the pkg from scratch the problem has disappeared. This is my theory anyways.

This error most commonly occurs when you copy tasks/components from one package to another. I know that's not exactly what you've done but its not a huge jump from it. I guess that must be something to do with it.

Glad its fixed anyway.

Yes, the problem (after much testing on my part) ALWAYS crops up when I am trying to run components from a migrated DTS package.

In this case, I have an EXECUTE SQL task, for which I've defined a NEW connection and deleted the old connection completely, and it still throws this error about the connection not existing, even though the sql runs correctly in the database.

I have found that the only solution to this problem is to start the package from scratch, and use the EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE object instead, instead of trying to run it from the migrated package itself.

Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Timeout Expired

I am getting above error msg when I tried to run my View.
The view have 12 tables and 20 joins, which tells you the complaxcity of
the view. When run this view using Query Analyzer it gave me the above

updating the timeout property, the view run fine. I need the same
changes in Enterprise Manager and update timeout property for the server

Do you have appropriate indexes on the tables involved, especially on the

ERROR: "activex component can't create object: 'excel.application'"

When I run a DTS, I get the following error.
Error I get: "activex component can't create object:
'excel.application'"
I was told not to load excel into sql server. Well, in any case, there
should not be any need to load excel, it recognizes the excel component
in the DTS, that means, it should be recognizing excel.
Please assist.
Thx,
Swim.

MSDE sp3a and MSDE release A install by default disabling all network
protocols in order to protect the installed instance from malicious external
attacks..
if you want your instance to be accessible from remote client you have to
enable network protocols at install time, via the DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOL=0
command line parameter or anabling them after install via Server Network
Utility (svrnetcn.exe)...

Error writing binary data

Dear all,
we run a SQL Server 2000 SE 8.00.534 SP2 on a 2 CPU server.
We have three similar databases, which all contain a table to store binaries
as base64-Text.
From time to time we face a problem writing in one of this tables. The
requests get a timeout.
Its always the same table in the same database. The other tables never
caused any problem.
Reading access ist no problem, but writing doesn't work.
We can fix the problem by copying the data in a new table an rename them
that the new table replaces the old one. Sometimes the problem ist solved
when we add a new index (doesn't matter which column) and save the table.
You can't see any difference between the the table in the relevant database
and the other ones.
Even a restart of the whole machine doesn't solve the problem, so that locks
shouldn't be the cause.
Any tips?
Greeting from Germany
Matthias MerzHi
There are a significant number of changes between the version you are
running and the current version (2187) so you may want to review the KB
article to see if there is anything that may have fixed this
http://www.aspfaq.com/sql2000builds.asp
If you are getting any error messages in the SQL Server log or the Windows
Event log will help.
You don't say if dropping all indexes helps!!!
