We have a SQL Server 2000 on a remote server in Texas, we=20

We have a SQL Server 2000 on a remote server in Texas, we
send our data over TCP/IP every 3 minutes to SQL Server

Error writing binary data

Dear all,
we run a SQL Server 2000 SE 8.00.534 SP2 on a 2 CPU server.
We have three similar databases, which all contain a table to store binaries
as base64-Text.
From time to time we face a problem writing in one of this tables. The
requests get a timeout.
Its always the same table in the same database. The other tables never
caused any problem.
Reading access ist no problem, but writing doesn't work.
We can fix the problem by copying the data in a new table an rename them
that the new table replaces the old one. Sometimes the problem ist solved
when we add a new index (doesn't matter which column) and save the table.
You can't see any difference between the the table in the relevant database
and the other ones.
Even a restart of the whole machine doesn't solve the problem, so that locks
shouldn't be the cause.
Any tips?

There are a significant number of changes between the version you are
running and the current version (2187) so you may want to review the KB
article to see if there is anything that may have fixed this

If you are getting any error messages in the SQL Server log or the Windows
Event log will help.
You don't say if dropping all indexes helps!!!

Error with Downloading MSDE

Dear All,
I am new to SQL I download "sql2ksp3" to my laptop (Window Xp Pentium III) and then I start to setup MSDE:

After I run this command it gives me the following statment!!!

Setup failed to configure the server.Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs for more information.

I hate to tell you, but this starts with reading the error message. And following the isntructions it provides.

Tells you to go to the sever error logs and the setup error logs and get more information.

Now, without this information, I do not really see how we could help you. Maybe if my crystal ball version 22332233 is finally delivered, but until then at least I actually do rely on you getting the errors our of your computer.

Are you sure that pass and securitymode are correct, btw? I NEVER had to run setup with any parameters.|||Have you installed MSDE before this, and you're just upgrading your current instance?

MSDE SP3a Download.|||I had the same problem because I, too, read the installation instructions that shipped with MSDE.

I used the following command:
setup SAPWD="bubba"

If you choose to use theSECURITYMODE switch, you won't need to encloseSQL in quotations.

Error while using database procedure in a gridview control

Dear Forum,

I have a gridview control which is associated to a storedprocedure with a parameter(Customer Number) to be supplied. In theDefine Custom Statement or stored procedure section I selected stored procedure and selected the stored procedure. The Define Parameter window I defaulted the Parameter Source as 'none' and default value as '%'. In the next screen, I do a test query which retuns the following error

There was an error executing the query. Please check the syntax of the command and if present, the type and values of the parameters and ensure that they are correct.

[Error 42000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Drive][SQL Server] Procedure 'SP_TransactionDetails' expects parameter'@.cnum' which was not supplied.

I am using SQL server studio 2005 version2.0.

But the same procedure, if I use as SQL Statement, it works.

Can somebody help me.

'@.cnum' seems to be Int. Does "%' match the type?

When you click test query there should pop up a window then you could input other values to see what will happen.

The problem was related to the connection. I was using the DSN on my local machine pointed to an sql server in the network. I dropped the connection and re-created a new connection with the server name it works.

lalWhy are you using dynamic SQL to insert data from an SP? I strongly
recommend you use a separate SP for each table and just pass the column
data as parameters. Use a static INSERT statement and use default
values if you need to support optional data.
Without seeing the full code or anything that reproduces the problem it
looks like you must have either a mismatched number of quotes or a
double-quoted string in your @.sqlstring with the QUOTED_IDENTIFIER
option set ON. Print out the @.sqlstring value, then paste it into Query
Analyzer to find the problem.

Error while doing DTS from INFORMIX to MSSQL

Dear All,

I'm using the DTS to transfer data from Informix 7.30 UC9 to MS SQL 2000 Enterprise. The tables I'm transferring contains data for BaaN ERP.

While transferring certain tables, I am successful. On some, I get an error that says "Data overflow". It was caused by "DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP".

Any idea why this happens?

BOL confirms Infomix information:
The Informix ODBC driver is not supported for use with DTS.
The Merant Informix OLE DB provider is supported for DTS imports from Informix, but not DTS exports to Informix. This driver also cannot be used to import meta data.

The Intersolv Informix ODBC driver is supported, but with the following restrictions:
BLOBs cannot be exported to Informix.

When creating new tables on Informix, the DTS Import/Export Wizard will incorrectly map the SQL Server 2000 datetime columns to the Informix 'Datetime year to fraction' data type. Manually change this to the Informix Date type.

The DTS meta data import will not import Informix catalog or table information.|||Thanks for such a speedy reply!
